Almedahls 1846–2026

FROM DYE WORKS TO BELIEF IN THE FUTURE

Almedahls’ 180th anniversary represents far more than a number. It tells the story
of a Swedish textile company that has grown alongside society, supported everyday
life across generations, and shaped the environments in which people live, work,
and come together.

The story began in 1846, at a time when Sweden was in the midst of the industrial
breakthrough. In a dye works and bleachery, Almedahls took its first steps – with linen,
skilled craftsmanship and a strong ambition to create something built to last. From the
very beginning, quality became a defining hallmark. The products reached far beyond
Sweden’s borders and were internationally awarded, while the business continued to
grow at home.

During the second half of the 19th century, Almedahls was one of the country’s most
important producers of linen. The textiles were practical, durable and beautiful
– created to be used, washed and to live on in people’s everyday lives.

PEOPLE AT THE CENTRE

The story of Almedahls is not only about textiles. It is also about people. As early as
the 1840s, the company took on a level of social responsibility that was unusual for
its time. Housing was built for workers. Education, healthcare and security became
part of the operation. It was an early expression of a value that still defines the
company today: that long-term thinking always begins with care.

DESIGNS THAT LEAVE A MARK

During the 20th century, Almedahls took further steps – from industrial production
towards a stronger focus on form and expression. Collaborations with designers laid
the foundation for the design tradition that is now closely associated with the brand.
Patterns became identity. Colour became language. Textile became storytelling.

Over the years, Almedahls textiles have found their place in everything from
private homes to public spaces – schools, healthcare environments, offices and
places where function and aesthetics must work together.
